Hotels Magic Costa Blanca, a hospitality group operating in Spain, recognized the significant environmental and financial impact of food waste in their operations. Committed to sustainability and aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the group sought a comprehensive solution to reduce food waste, cut costs, and minimize their carbon footprint.
Solution
In April 2023, Hotels Magic Costa Blanca launched a pivotal sustainability initiative at Magic Cristal Park Hotel, utilizing LightBlue Consulting’s FIT Food Waste Tech.
FIT Tech is an agile food waste monitoring solution for HORECA professionals willing to seamlessly track and reduce food waste and associated costs. Now used in 30+ countries and available in 11 languages, the technology runs on generic, non-proprietary hardware: tablets or phones for the app, cost-effective Bluetooth enabled scales (optional), and any computer or smartphone for the software, to support large-scale deployment.
In 2 clicks and less than 10 seconds, food waste records are sent to a cloud-based data analytics software that helps answer key questions pertaining to food waste: how much, when, where, why, what, is being improved. Cost effective equipment enables users to cover a wide scope of their operations and quickly capture important data (location, shift, category, type and quantities) from several outlets or production units.
Automated weekly reports for each kitchen/outlet are sent directly to users, and all information is accessible around the clock with detailed filters for further in-depth data analytics.
The system also provides access to 40+ food waste “hacks” to find guidance on best practices, and to financial impact analysis tools to tracks savings.
The usual users would see a reduction of 35% on food waste per cover, and ~5% in cost per cover.
